Palliative Care

Providing comfort and symptom management

Our Palliative Care team provides specialized medical care for patients with serious, chronic and life-threatening illnesses. We focus on providing relief from symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness, whatever the diagnosis. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for both the patients and their families, offering support during this life transition.

Our care team includes a physician, nurse and social worker. Services may involve spiritual counseling, psychological counseling, physical or occupational therapy, addressing dietitian needs, all depending upon the patient's needs.

Although pain management is a major part of palliative care, we offer help with other symptoms such as:
  • Nausea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Constipation
  • Shortness of breath
  • Trouble sleeping
Since there are no time limits on when palliative care can be received, it is available for patients who want and need comfort at any stage of any disease, whether terminal or chronic.

Please contact Social Services for any further questions, education, or a tour of our palliative care unit at (256) 831-5730 or send us an email.
